I saw the Mama show in the Kunstpalace, I left with an overall feeling of disappointment. A conservative mainstream approach giving nothing new. I look forward to seeing “ Good Mom/ Bad Mom” @centraalmuseum and am hoping it gives a more rounded version of motherhood/
It’s been a hot topic in the art world of late especially because of books from Hettie Judah pushing the conversation forward. Good point regarding the feel-good shows. There is a good conversation on deBalie YouTube channel with the curators of “good mom/bad mom” Katy Hessel and some others.
Really curious how it's such a prominent theme in exhibitions right now! Also: I think my review sounds rather benevolent of Kunstpalast because their conservative approach is pretty much what I expect from their brand. The Kunstpalast tends to do feel-good shows to attract many visitors, critical interrogation remains superficial. And so I wasn't disappointed because I wasn't surprised by their approach. But I'm no way a fan of the result.
