I interviewed four gallery directors for Art Düsseldorf: We talked about the movements that shaped their regions, the challenges of showing emerging artists, and the advantages of being an underdog.
thank you for this rare and much-needed conversation about the art world in the CEE region! i’d be really curious to see a similar focus on small ukrainian art galleries and how the scene has evolved both before and during the war. there’s this tension — on one hand, growing international recognition because of the war, and on the other, a long-standing lack of support due to historical, economic, and military circumstances — especially when it comes to which forms of art are recognized or sustained.
i’m a ukrainian video artist currently based in hamburg, and this is a deeply personal topic for me. if you’re ever interested in conducting an interview and need contacts within the scene, feel free to reach out:)
